Why Fire Service Metro Station Should be Made Available in UDUS Main Campus

By Ghazali Ibrahim

Fire is one of the most destructive elements which causes loss of lives and properties. Within a twinkle of an eye, it can turn a mighty building to ashes, luxury mansions into dust, and palace to embers. Among the four alchemists, fire is the strongest of all due to its rapid annihilable nature. The phenomenon can never be joked with, talk less of a trick. Its effect endangers human assets and renders them invaluable.

The terrible incident of November 7th is still fresh in the memory of many Danfodites, especially the Emirates, whose Union's shop was burnt down. The unexpected outbreak razed about three shops at the hostel mini-mart, where valuable properties were destroyed. Recall that during the 2019/2020 academic session same incident occurred at Bakassi and DV hostel, where students properties were maimed.

As this horrible incident gives persisting itself on the soil of UDUS, the need for a fire service metro station within the University environment is very paramount. Reports show that the November 7th incident was a result of the dumping ditches behind the affected shops while that of the last academic session was students negligence and use of electronic appliances.

The importance of the fire service metro station would have been comprehended hadn't been one is available within the University community as the properties lost would not have been that much. The distance between the University community and a fire service station in Sokoto metropolitan is worth rescuing the properties lost. Fire extinguisher, which would have stood as an alternative in time of emergency like this, unfortunately, same is not made available.

UDUS is well known for its moral and academic excellence globally, as her products are shining stars and making the varsity proud. However, it so saddened for a second-generation University founded in 1975, not to boast of a fire service metro station, in this 21st century. The likes of the University of Abuja, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, University of Ilorin, among others can brag of a well equipped mini fire service metro station within their University campuses, why can't UDUS emulate the same, for the betterment of the students, staffs and the University community at large, as the next location of the horrible incident is unknown to nobody.
