The Almighty ABU Naturally Ahead or Behind?

Image
By Justice Omodiagbe The almighty Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria just graciously approved the extension of the deadline for the closure of registration by two weeks. "What an understanding management," you may mutter. Don't be too quick to extol them; at face value, it seems so but in reality, what they did is not different from what our unscrupulous politicians do and we revile them when they do. “How can you berate a management who listened to the pleas of her students and made efforts to assist them?” You ask almost angrily. Why shouldn't I? When, like our politicians, they create a problem, make the masses suffer, the masses cry out, they proffer solution, make it seems they did it in the best interest of the public and we cheer them on only to repeat the vicious circle later on - a problem they created that was unnecessary in the first place just to keep us at their mercy. Like the biblical Apostle Paul reprimanded the church in Galatians, "Oh foolish Galat...

Why Fire Service Metro Station Should be Made Available in UDUS Main Campus

Image
By Ghazali Ibrahim Fire is one of the most destructive elements which causes loss of lives and properties. Within a twinkle of an eye, it can turn a mighty building to ashes, luxury mansions into dust, and palace to embers. Among the four alchemists, fire is the strongest of all due to its rapid annihilable nature. The phenomenon can never be joked with, talk less of a trick. Its effect endangers human assets and renders them invaluable.  The terrible incident of November 7th is still fresh in the memory of many Danfodites, especially the Emirates, whose Union's shop was burnt down. The unexpected outbreak razed about three shops at the hostel mini-mart, where valuable properties were destroyed. Recall that during the 2019/2020 academic session same incident occurred at Bakassi and DV hostel, where students properties were maimed. As this horrible incident gives persisting itself on the soil of UDUS, the need for a fire service metro station within the University environment is ver...

Of Judicial Rascality and the Way Forward

Image
By Shafi Bolakale Perhaps, no time in history has her hallowed institutions been this degraded. Corruption has been perceived as being the Nigerian Judiciary. The good, intellectual and well versed judicial officers of impeccable character and integrity are nowhere to be found. The growing problem of conflicting judgments has driven away from the uprightness and integrity that ought to reflect in this institution. Of all this rascality, the government’s strong-arm tactics have influenced its performance as a fearless and impartial arbiter. The last hope of the common man has been humiliated by the state authoritarianism, which has been abruptly stripped of his immunity without recourse to the provisions of the law, where will the common man run to? The state machinery has fallen to the proletarian times of outright disregard and disobedience of subsisting court orders and falling the standard of the rule of law. The enthronement of anarchy in disregard to the decisions of the court has...
